Sigma : Stand Tall EP 2 : Breakbeat Kaos : 12"
Following on in the giant footsteps left by the Stand Tall EP Pt.1 released in July, we now bare witness to the second and final part of the EP and true to form the Sigma boys have saved the best until last. Two massive slices of mudslinging drum & bass that have been getting raves all-a-sweaty of late. * ‘Stronger’ is one that’s been at the front of DJ boxes across the land for the last few months with its instantly recognizable electro-inspired hook and vocoded vox that lets the good times roll to full effect. Add a crisp Sigma break to keeps things moving thoughout and some glorious sweeping strings that add a touch of class and it’s not hard to see why Friction recently included this one on his Ministry Of Sound mix CD. * Things then get a little rougher in ‘The Jungle’ with ominous orchestral risings over the intro before the breakdown gives way to some pedal-to-the-metal call and answer bass riff action to get the trigger fingers pointing skywards. Watch for the switch up mid-way too for some extra dance floor appeal that make this a definite contender for tune of the night at any event around the globe. Firin’!! * DJ support from Fresh, Adam F, Camo & Krooked, Andy C, Friction, High Contrast, Sigma, Hype and many more. / DnB / [10/7/2010]

Synkro [D Bridge] : Letting Go : Blackout Music : 12"
First 1000 copies will come shrink-wrapped in embossed, Spot UV, & die cut outer jacket with dedicate pantone inner sleeve and limited edition pantone stickers. Synkro topped many people’s “one to watch in 2010” lists, and new label Blackout Music is pleased to be launching with one of his finest works to date. * ‘Letting Go’ is soundscape escapism at its best – swelling tides of lush layered pads drift effortlessly over unhurried drumwork, as intricate arpeggiation and voicebox synths add a dash of purpose to the blissful ambience. * dBridge Exit main man and longtime supporter of Synkro, turns in a stunning remix to offset the original, injecting urgency via the melancholic lead melody and unexpected key changes to offer yesterday’s tomorrow as the sound of today. / DnB / [10/7/2010]

Total Science feat Riya : Redlines : Critical Music : 12"
As we head into the warmer months camp Critical brings a true sunshine release from one of D&B's tour de force production duos, Total Science. The original jungle dons push all the right buttons here as they team up with Riya for a sumptuous vocal excursion like  no other. 'Redlines' has already been given the thumbs up by the likes of Mistajam and Ras Kwame on BBC Radio 1/1xtra and it's  not hard to see why. A solid locked groove rolls from the start on this one with a polished break and beautiful melancholic piano hook  that draw you in before the real treat begins; when Riya's gorgeous vocal drops in your heart will melt. Effortless audio bliss for all the  lovers out there. Things then toughen up 10-fold on the flip as the Total Science party boys drop 'Skinz', a crisp and dry piece of  Bristol-esque D&B with a thugged-out b-line that's had clubs shaking all over for the past six months. Included on Friction's 'Assassin  Vol.1' mix cd last year, this release comes with one of the highest endorsements available!Big support from Friction, Fabio, Nu:Tone,  Cyantific, Kasra, Logistics, Sabre and more. / DnB / [10/7/2010]

Bladerunner / Serum & Bladerunner : Back To The Jungle / Who Jah Bless : Critical Music : 12"
Calling all foot-soldiers to the floor! Hold your positions as Critical stand firm ready to drop one of its most rowdy releases in quite some time. Looking back to go forward we see Bladerunner and Serum going in hard with a 12” brimming with jungle riddims guaranteed to have the rudest of rudeboys skanking out as Critical shows its undeniable versatility once more. Bladerunner steps up first with the evocative, cinematic intro of ‘Back To the Jungle’, that manages to set the scene perfectly for what’s to come with tom-tom hits, deep forest atmospherics and a certain “every time I think I’m gonna wake up back in the jungle..” sample. As he says it that’ s exactly what we do as in crash the breaks, mentasm stabs and the largest of basslines that takes so things old-skool you could almost swear it was 1994 again. Sometimes they really do make them like they used to and we’re very pleased that they do, phenomenal. Teaming up with Serum on the flip sees the pair continuing the theme with ‘Who Jah Bless’, another excursion right back to the roots. Skipping breaks, bleep fx and sax pave the way to one of the all time classic studio techniques synonymous with jungle/drum & bass – the time-stretched vocal! Sitting perfectly in the mix it signals the drop of smashing drums, massive rise & fall bass and pitch shifting snares that finish this one off with a touch of class. Another very special Critical release indeed. DJ support from Andy C, Hype, Friction, Cyantific, Logistics and many more / DnB / [10/7/2010]

Cyantific & Logistics feat Natalie Williams : Brighter Day / 88 Mph : Cyantific  : 12"
Jon Stanley aka Cyantific is back – careering back into the drum & bass spotlight right where he belongs, with the debut release on his own self-titled label. Leading the way is ‘Brighter Day’ - the latest collaboration between Cyantific and fellow Hospital Records artist Logistics. Picking up where their previous outing, the mighty ‘Flashback’, left off, it’s supercharged electric d&b of the highest order, featuring the vocal talents of Natalie Williams. While the lead synth line and uplifting vocals sooth the soul, the ever so snarling bassline and pumping subs remind you that this isn’t going to be all plain sailing. After gaining a huge following online through Danny Byrd’s recent BBC Radio 1 guest mix, the lead track is set to smash dancefloors up and down the country with support from what reads like a who’s who of the drum & bass A list.On the flip, Cyantific goes it alone, deeper into the jungle with ’88 mph’. Filled to the brim with amen breaks, big bass and urgent samples, it’s 3am at Fabric room 1. Reminiscent of Cyantific’s early Hospital Records jungle rinse outs such as ‘Little Green Men’ and ‘Reincarnation Dub’, this latest offering is set to blow a hole twice the size in your bassbin with subs that go so low you will find them somewhere in subterranea. a Cyantific & Logistics Ft. Bachelors Of Science : Warehouse Dayz : Horizons Music : 3x12"
Hailing from San Francisco, California, Bachelors of Science are fast becoming one of the biggest acts in the electronica music scene. Their 2008 debut “Science Fiction” was released to critical and commercial acclaim, breaking into the iTunes dance chart and spending over 9 weeks in the DNBArena charts and won "Best Drum n Bass Track" at the 2009 Beatport Awards. The duo even featured on the soundtrack to the popular iPhone game “Tap Tap Revenge”. * Bachelors of Science are Phil "Rene" - a producer and classically trained musician born in New Zealand and raised in the UK - and Chris Doe - also from the UK, previously known for playing the hardcore and early jungle scene from 1991 - 1995. The duo met in California and soon set to work producing together, blending a unique mix of classical strings, rolling beats and soulful vocals. Their sound was soon hailed as “a refreshing musical approach to drum n bass and a return to the true sound of liquid funk”, and rapidly garnered airplay from the like of LTJ Bukem, Basement Jaxx, Grooverider, Annie Mac, High Contrast, Doc Scott, Alix Perez, Makoto, State Of Mind, BigBud and L Double to name but a few. * “Warehouse Dayz” is Bachelors of Science’s second album, and a represents a significant direction change for the duo. For their sophomore outing they have raised the bar as an electronic music act, dipping into a wealth of seemingly disparate influences – from Lemon Jelly, Portishead, LTJ Bukem, High Contrast, Daft Punk, Mylo and the Prodigy to Debussy, Frank Sinatra and Hunter S. Thompson - and combining these various styles to edge outwards of the genre they’re best known for. The result is a record that delights both on the well worn boards of a smoky club or the dimly lit hues of your living room. * From the electro influenced “Lost Inside”, via the cheeky reggae vibes of “Red Stripe”, the drum and bass ballad “Can’t Let Go”, and the devastating “Rip Saw” to the Burial tinged “Bombay Sapphire”, Lindstrom inspace-disco sounds of “Match Point” and the epic ‘amen break centred “The Rush”, the Bachelors of Science consistently surprise with a diverse palette of sounds, ensuring things never get stale. www.bachelorsofscience.com/media.htm www.youtube.com/user/bachelorsofscience * Reviews for Warehouse Dayz: “…takes the duo to a whole new dimension” - iDJ, April 2010 “…mega album ....with the current formats of drum & bass and electronic music albums ever changing, the guys have a unique outlook” - Knowledge, April 2010 “…a wonderfully musical strand of drum & bass music....a name to check throughout 2010” - Data Transmission, April 2010 “…another solid LP" - Tillate, May 2010 “…far from the obvious; even Roni Size of 2010?... gets better on every listen” - FlyGlobalMusic.com, April 2010 “…far from being dancefloor generic” - Barcodezine.com, April 2010 “…perfect soundtrack for the pre-party…”- Notion, Issue 44 / DnB / [10/7/2010]

Random Movement : Lucky Guess Sampler 1 - Waterlogged / Change For The Train Home : Innerground Records : 12"
In support of the forthcoming RANDOM MOVEMENT debut album release, “Lucky Guess”, Innerground are releasing two exclusive album samplers to whet the appetite for what is arguably the most musical DnB album to hit the streets in a long time. * First up we have “Waterlogged” b/w “Change For The Train Home”. Waterlogged has been championed by our very own DJ Marky, and almost always makes the set list. With it’s subtle blend of keys and strings, the track ebbs and flows with the best of them – rising and falling as each element is introduced and a new phase of the track begins. “Change For The Train Home” has that outright deep feel, with a pulsating bassline that drives home the brilliance of the track, whilst highlighting the tantric male vocals. / DnB / [10/7/2010]

Random Movement : Lucky Guess Sampler 2 - Yeah That’s It / Can't Resist : Innerground Records : 12"
Yeah, That’s It and S.P.Y.’s epic refix of “Can’t Resist”.  Yeah, That’s It pulls no punches; it’s bassy – REALLY BASSY! The track has been decimating dancefloors single handed across the US and Europe, and is one of the top picks from the CD album. “Can’t Resist” gets a reincarnation here also, as S.P.Y. takes the reins and gives it that mean streak he is ever so capable of applying to almost anything that he comes into contact with. And with “Can’t Resist” he has only added an extra layer of excellence to an already stunning track. / DnB / [10/7/2010]

Unquote / Unquote & Molecular Structures : Hide Your Tears Because We Are In Heaven / Lubov Moya : Med School : 12"
To quote Unquote, he describes his music as “hearing the sound of your soul” and the extravagantly titled “Hide Your Tears…” is no exception. Waves of rich strings, celestial synths and hearty bass are punctuated by monumental kick drums while a chopped up angelic vocal forms an infectious narrative. Epic and emotional, this is forward-thinking drum+bass with a disregard for the rulebook. * Unquote is ably assisted by German Producer Molecular Structures on the flip. “Lubov Moya”, which translates into English as “My Love”, strikes the perfect balance with a distinctive, darker dancefloor flavour. Instantly recognisable with it's bleepy lead hook, driven reece bassline and amen breaks, it was premiered by Danny Byrd on his BBC Radio One Essential Mix in August. / DnB / [10/7/2010]

New Zealand Shapeshifter : The System Is A Remix : Hospital Records : 2x12"
Heralded as a musical phenomenon - New Zealand Shapeshifter's unique blend of heavy soul, and drum + bass is every bit as rugged and epic as the landscape of their native New Zealand. Like Jonah Lomu on a D+B mission, their ground breaking sound will knock you off your feet. * Hospital have called in a legion of Drum + Bass talent called in to create an awesome EP of remixes. The likes of Netsky, Logistics, State of Mind and The Upbeats are all masters of their game and sure enough - with the raw energy of NZ Shapeshifter’s material to work with they have each created something special. * First up fellow NZ residents State Of Mind deliver a powerful take on album opener “Dutchies”. A searing synth work out with a grinding dancefloor mixdown. P Diggsss vocal cries out “Welcome to the Ride” – the perfect set opener, this anthem has been setting off Hospitality events across the UK and worldwide. * Man of the moment Netsky stamps his trademark 2010 sound on “The Touch”. Acoustic pianos and clean vocals give way to glitching electro arpeggios and a riffing sawtooth bassline. Netsky mania continues and the Belgian whizzkid continues to justify his hype. * The Upbeats original remix of “Twin Galaxies” was a highlight of Sick Music2, this VIP retouch brings the vibe to vinyl perfectly, while on the final slice of wax, Logistics awesome remix of “Lifetime” rounds off the package perfectly. His trademark crisp beats and clean bass sound result in a piece of music with an effortless groove. * TRACKLIST: A) Dutchies (State of Mind Remix) B) The Touch (Netsky Remix) C) Twin Galaxies (The Upbeats VIP mix) D) Lifetime (Logistics Remix) / DnB / [10/7/2010]

Danny Byrd : Rave Digger : Hospital Records : 2x12"
Danny Byrd is back once again! Having smashed up dancefloors and radio playlists with his huge rave rework of Liquid’s “Sweet Harmony” earlier this year he returns with one of the biggest and most hotly anticipated dance albums of the year. * “Rave Digger” is a non-stop helter-skelter ride of hands-in-the-air pianos, breakneck breakbeats and searing mentasm synths. Featuring the vocal dexterity of I-Kay, on a classic 90s hook, “Ill Behaviour” gets you right from the word go; and is a fitting statement of intent for a project which looks set to put a rocket up the backside of UK dance music. * “Judgement Day” sees I-Kay in a more forceful mood - picking up where last years playlist contender Red Mist left off, before D+B’s newest superstar Netsky joins Danny on “Tonight”, for some spine-tingling synth-fuelled mayhem. * Hot Fuzz comes like an entire weekend rolled into one tune before things ease down to 140bpm for “We Can Have It All”; a timeless slice of euphoric breakbeat soul. There are more laid back moments, from the beautiful “Failsafe” featuring London Elektricity, to Zarif’s soul tinged vocals on “Wait for Me” and the classic jungle homage “Amen Alley”, all interspersed with more rave madness than you can shake a glowstick at. * Debuted exclusively by Radio One’s Annie Mac and jumped on early by Mistajam and Zane Lowe, this is drum + bass with maximum crossover appeal. Craggz & Parallel : Metroplex / Future Shock : Product Recordings : 12"
Finished copy. The final 12” Vinyl taken from the Turn The Page album. Whilst other tunes have hinted at it, ‘Metroplex’ fully embraces their inherent love of techno with huge half-time 808’s and synths that would make Juan Atkins chomp at the bit. One for those who know and a lovely surprise for those who are yet to know. On the flip ‘Future Shock’ sticking with the vintage outboard gear sounds the guys then up it once more for one final drum & bass rollout that has killer written all over it. Loadstar : Link To The Past / Rapidas : Ram Records : 12"
Following on from their massive release 'Remember' / 'Rushin Dragon' earlier this year and to kickstart their new joint pseudonym,"LOADSTAR", Xample & Lomax are once again about to unleashed two highly anticipated monsters! Both of which will feature on the forthcoming Andy C - Nightlife 5 project as well as their very own debut long player early next year. * 'Link To The Past' is a beautifully crafted piece of production that has hauntingly soft intro leads, taking you to an absolute monster of a drop. The hypnotic bass-line alone will have you hooked from the off. This is one of the only tracks of recent years that gets played from start to finish by all the key players, including label boss Andy C. Quiet simply it's in a class of its own from start to finish. * 'Rapidas', again perfectly showcases this duo's ability to produce yet another infectious tune that you want to listen to time and time again. Coupled with the hooky vocal stylings of Ikay, the perfection of production that Loadstar do so well delivers another anthemic, instantly recognisable piece of audio pleasure. * Both tracks have been getting huge support from the likes of Andy C, Sub Focus, High Contrast, Hype, Chase & Status, Noisia, Marky, and Fabio to name but a few. / DnB / [10/7/2010]

For Uprising's 23rd release he enlists the help of fellow Antipodean Bulletproof to roll out two sublime slices of drum & bass that do not disappoint. 'Whiskey Tango' brings some classic Hardware vibes with twisting techno riffs, skipping beats and syncopated bursts of bass. Flip over and 'The Sum Of All Things' goes for a more epic and euphoric vibe. Gradual building synths are layered with warm pads before a winding LFO seals the deal. Alix Perez : Dark Days EP : Shogun Audio : 2x12"
Since his glorious debut album ‘1984’ dropped last year, Alix Perez has been catapulted into the upper echelons of the drum & bass stratosphere, and now as we move on for his first release since then Alix readys himself to show a decidedly different vibe that’s been demolishing clubs left, right and centre. Ladies and gentlemen get ready for one of the most anticipated releases of 2010, the ‘Dark Days EP’. * Kicking off with the title track, ‘Dark Days’ is a rugged, rawkus collaboration with leading UK grime and hip hop crew, the Foreign Beggars. Laying down their trademark vocals over some churning bass and intricate drum work, this is one stepper that’ll send any dance floor into the red whatever the weather. * Next up ‘Behind Time’ runs off with an intro oozing electro influences from every pore before a earth-shaking bassline cascades in to devour us with carniverous precision. There’s a little respite with the return of those opening synths but before long it’s back to beats as only Perez knows how. * Then it’s time for a dreamteam collaboration with everyone’s favourite Dutchmen Noisia, and naturally, it doesn’t disappoint. ‘Loose Ends’ is a lesson in nu-skool tech-infused D&B ready to slice up dance floors absolutely everywhere. A proper war-face track for those seeking maximum enemy infiltration. * ‘Menacing Ways’ as the name suggests carries on the nasty EP-wide vibe with a totally runnin’ excursion of fly bass, scattering percussion, heavy kicks and that all-important Alix Perez groove to round off an amazing EP that shows the producer in a whole new refreshing light. Superb. * DJ support from Andy C, Friction, Spectrasoul, Hype, Rockwell, Alix Perez and more. / DnB / [10/7/2010]

DJ Friction : Stand Up / Lifecycle : Shogun Audio : 12"
Hold up, what’s that sound…something very special is stirring in the Shogun Audio studio right now as the label head honcho and world-renowned lady killer has stepped back behind the controls. Taking time out of one of the busiest DJ schedules in the game, Friction has delivered one of the biggest, rowdiest slabs of dance floor drum & bass for 2010 that marks the start of a run of brand new material to look forward to over the coming months. Without doubt, Friction means business….reeeeload!! * The first fruits of his labour is the heavily hammered ‘Stand Up’, a collaboration with another couple of stunning producers who can do no wrong at the moment, Austria’s Camo & Krooked. If you like slaying the dance then this is the weapon of choice this summer. With hyping vocals from the one and only Dynamite MC it can only go one way as the massive smashing drums and zooming bass hit where it hurts ready to deliver the killer blow that’ll leave ravers staggering from the dance floor. Immense! * Friction then goes it alone on ‘Lifecycle’ and eases the pressure somewhat but still keeps things strictly on the floor as crisp breaks and soaring vocals run over the intro before a sultry breakdown prepares for the oncoming onslaught. Dropping with rich LFO bass and scattering drums it serves as the perfect soul soother with gorgeous lyrics that cut through the mix to give this highly charged tune a very welcome melancholic edge. * DJ support from Hype, Andy C, Friction, Chase & Status, Mistajam and many more. / DnB / [10/7/2010]

Jamie Woon : Night Air / Night Air (Ramadanman Refix) : Candent Songs : 12"
Finish copy Limited Edition vinyl. Jamie Woon is a special talent who will carve his blues n’ bass infused pop songs into your brain and leave them there forever. You might not have heard of him yet, unless you've been tapped into the eerie, soulful end of dubstep, but it’s a name you will be hearing a lot of in the coming 12 months. Written and produced by Woon, Night Air is as dark, sweet and seductive as molasses, an irresistibly understated combination of Jamie’s uniquely supple voice, his subtly compulsive beats and a sky full of atmosphere. A melancholic ode to the urgency of the night, it’s a future soul vision taken further into orbit with a dancefloor-winning refix by up and coming techno/dubstep crossover don Ramadanman. But you have to go back a few years to find the seeds of his new sound. In 2007 he released his version of traditional standard 'Wayfaring Stranger' with a remix from secretive and ultra selective producer Burial on the flip. It turned people like Gilles Peterson and Mary-Anne Hobbs into full-blown Woon fans. The release also recalibrated his musical mind and inspired him to re-think his approach on music. Woon is now primed to be one of the most exciting artists you're likely to hear all year, a man who is populist but always inventive, a modest and understated 27 year old who's making hugely ambitious music that you'll be filing somewhere, between your favourite Four Tet, Richard Hawley and D'Angelo records. Singer, songwriter and self-taught producer Woon made his name by playing live. He's got hundreds of gigs under his belt, from endless spots in front of the microphone with just his guitar, an effects box and that unmistakable voice, to supporting Amy Winehouse. He's played in a full band with dubstep DJ and producer Reso on drums and he's taken stage at Sonar. He has now made the music that will let him switch between intimate gigs to stages with a bigger reach. The new sound fuses his future pop songs with '80s reverb, ultra-tight beats and acres of bass and they cleverly carry the intimate emotions of his early sound into a whole different room; bigger, badder… heavier. Watch out for his debut album in spring 2011… a Jamie Woon - Night Air b Jamie Woon - Night Air Ramadanman Refix / Dubstep / [10/7/2010]

Newly released from beneath the mentoring wings of Komonazmuk and Appleblim, his slick productions have already been slated for release on DecaRhythm, Apple Pips and Subdepth Records. A. Arkist & Komonazmuk - 'Outbreak' - Is it a bird, is it a plane? Arkist & Komonazmuk's collaborative effort sticks to ISP's 'it'simpossible- to-pin-down' mantra, dipping its beak into the waters of electro, robo-funk, dubstep... possibly even harking back to a long-forgotten time when breakbeat was interesting. Straight up, no messing, 'Outbreak' comes with its weighty, synthesised beats from the go. After the drop the bassline strolls along playfully below a mirror of the same in light-footed melody. Around the halfway mark the ghosts of former rave stabs and an acid synth line add to an already eclectic sound. Watch out for the growling switch-up in the second drop. DJ support from: Appleblim, the Foreign Beggars, HENCH, Maryanne Hobbs etc AA. Arkist - 'Until Next Time' - The spikey breakbeats and spliced vocals of the intro give little warning of the rich sonics and warm compression of the track that follows the drop. It's dubstep Jim, but not as we know it... not a wobble in sight but smooth sub-bass pulses position this track firmly on the dancefloor, while a fluid, saturdated melody and glistening top end show exactly why Arkist's production standards have been turning heads in the scene recently. Never one to sit back and ride the loop, 'Until Next Time' is no different, with Arkist repeatedly shifting through gears of sub-heavy groove. If Ibiza was built for bass-heads, this track would be wearing the needles out at the Cafe del Mar. DJ Support from: Scuba, Headhunter, Appleblim etc. A Arkist & Komonazmuk - Outbreak AA Arkist - Until Next Time / Dubstep / [10/7/2010]

Jimmy Edgar : NXTLVLNXTLVL / My Balance (Last Priority) : Nonplus Records : 12"
Finish copies promo. Hot off the back of his sexually charged XXX album which included the track ‘Hot Raw Sex’ of which Instra: mental provided one of many remixes, Jimmy Edgar has elevated the Nonplus catalogue with this superb two track 12”. a) Jimmy Edgar ‘+NXTLVLNXTLVL’ Upon listening to this track it’s obvious this guy oozes natural musical talent from every orifice. Jerky electro beats set the backing or playful chords and melodies and the odd bit of pitch bent Gfunkery, all spliced together with the trademark “on the fly” sounding sequencing like he’s played the whole track from start to finish off the top of his head. This is Jimmy Edgar doing what he does best and that is making raw music with his raw talent. aa) Jimmy Edgar ‘My Balance (Last Priority) - ‘My balance’ takes the tempo down somewhat and heres where the real sleaze begins. Wolf whistling synth lines, laid back bass and silky smooth drums merge into an orgy of aural pleasure. Think strip clubs, neon lights, and budget porn flicks and you’ll be someway toimagining what this track sounds like. So dumbfounded we were at the utter breathtaking beauty of this music, that we have no words to describe it. With that in mind, we hand you over to the man himself – Maxmillion Dunbar. “I used to live in the woods. When it would snow there would be huge 4-foot drifts, and my brother and I would cannonball into them from the roof of our house, which was actually the side of a hill. My dad built the house, which is a part of my face in the cover art of the LP.” “Now I live in the city and play in clubs. When I take the bass out and throw it back in I want you to feel it. "Pretty Please" is on some boogie party fly shit, and the rest of the tracks sort of travel down from there like some DNA, just unraveling all the zones that I go into; "Sno Mega" is for rollerskates, "Way Down" is an earth tone blast, "Girls Dream" is slow ocean disco, "Rhythm track For Rashied Ali" is a house slam in honor of the illest drummer ever, "Lemon & Lime" is what happened when I got really into this one Polygon Window song this year. Kulture : Spooky / Bittersweet : Reduction : 12"
Not everyone merits having their debut vinyl release on Skream's label Disfigured Dubz - Kulture did though, with his wicked mix of original dubstep stylings with totally fresh ideas and sounds. He dropped another hot EP for Skream and now rocks up on Reduction with a rather tasty plate. * 'Spooky' is the perfect title for the A side, as unsettling piano and darkside strings build haunting vibes before the almighty drop – tough, energetic drums, speaker-worrying bass and a spectral synth line that walks through walls. * 'Bittersweet' reinforces Kulture's connection to the classic dubstep sound - a sinister intro of menacing pads and echoing bleeps leads into a hard swung beat and slabs of sub-bass, laced with cooling organs and ongie-bongie percussion for heads in the know. * Support: Skream, Von D, Hatcha, Lost / Dubstep / [10/7/2010]

James Blake  : CMYK EP (Limited Edition Magenta Vinyl) : R & S Records : 12"
Debut single for another hugely tipped young London based producer on the legendary R&S record label, showcasing that the label is once again a serious force to be reckoned with. James Blake is making some of the most startlingly original music to have emerged from London in 2010 and is a real star in the making. In between studying Popular Music at Goldsmiths and writing a debut album that will take a lot of people by surprise, he has released amazing singles on Hemlock & Hessle, pushing the boundaries of what is expected of 'dubstep' music. This underground introduction has made him a star on influential blogs and websites and has now pricked up the ears of more mainstream press. With features to be published before the release of this EP in Dazed & Confused, NME and Pitchfork. CMYK is a club anthem in the making and one of the most in demand tracks on the dubstep scene. The further three tracks take a more introspective approach, and aren't strictly aimed at the dancefloor, but are equally heavy tracks that drip with funk and reveal themselves fully after repeated listens. Also an in demand DJ and remixer his remixes of Untold and Mount Kimbie are classics on their scene. This 12" release is likely to become both a James Blake and R&S collectors item. / Dubstep / [10/7/2010]

Youngman & Benga : Ho / One & Only : Digital Soundboy Recordings : 12"
Ho’ & ‘One & Only’ is the debut collaboration from Youngman & Benga, and we’re told its the first of many! For those unfamilair with the name, Youngman is indeed young, but has grafted from his early teens and had notched up an impressive CV of global gigs and tours with the likes of Bassline Smith & Drumsound, and a discography that includes collaborations with Skream, Crissy Criss, Bassline Smith, Drumsound, and outings on labels including V Recordings, Tempa, Ganja, Westbay, Technique, Ministry and Chronic. * For those who have been living on the moon and may not be aware of the name Benga, then here goes... one third of dubstep super group Magnetic Man, global touring partner in crime for over a decade to Skream, Rinse FM resident, global ambassidor for all things 140 BPM and the face (and afro) of the dubstep movement. He recently dropped ‘Stop Watching’/‘Little Bits’ on Digital Soundboy and scored a top 10 hit with Magnetic Man’s ‘I Breath Air’. OK then... * Youngman and Benga are now also a force on the club and festival circut, with Youngman joining Benga on a number of selected dates across the UK and Europe. * This mighty double A side release is the duo’s debut offering of smooth soulful vocals and progressive, tension building beats, now signed to Shy FX’s Digital Soundboy label. Skream, Breakage, Shy, DJ Yasmin and many more are battering it during their DJ sets and Mista Jam recently made it his ‘Jam Hot Record Of The Week’ on 1Xtra. So there you have it! [SUBWAYDS002]
Various : Destination EP 2 : Subway : 2x12"
Finish copy promo. Part 2 of the Subway "Destination" Series contains a various scala of sounds from deep within the dubstep spectrum.. The A side is one that has been tearing dancefloors non stop is none other then SPL & Geno Cochino's Medusa.. This insane record is one the best outings SPL has done to date.. this immense drop & serious bassline arent ones to toy with, so if you need to have something torn down.. look no further.. Then finally after years of floating on dub its "Trap Or Die" Atlanta's homegrown Mayhem steps up together with Whisperlink to show how addicting a tech-ed out tune can sound.. keep going to the second drop to maximise the damage... Plate 2 side C aka tune no 7 in the series... and that means of course Seven is up for his addition to the compilation.. This tune has been rinsed by the likes of N-Type, Youngsta mainly few years back and finally sees its release on wax.. Crazy Talk is one for the deeper heads with a sub bassline inside that will make any room shake its foundations. Turn up the volume and turn down the lights.. time to get your hoodies up and look to the floor.. Then off to the final tune of this compilation.. "Save the best for last" as they allways say.. And that title is wel deserved for Enei's offering "Late Detroit".. Being part of the Giant crew hasnt affected Enei one bit as this sounds completely different.. This deep 135bpm roller is one that can test any soundsystem.. sounding like garage & dubstep at the same time is something new and fresh.. and a perfect fit as Subways ending track of this first compilation. a SPL & Geno Cochino - Medusa b Mayhem & Whisperlink - Trap Or Die c Seven - Crazy Talk d Enei - Late Detroit / Dubstep / [10/7/2010]

[COMBAT027]
Scorn [King Cannibal / Wee DJs] : Super Mantis / Gravel Bed Remixes : Combat Recordings : 12"
Side A sees globe-trotting beats'n'bass warrior Dylan Richards aka King Cannibal apply his knowledge of precision-cut drumbreaks, fierce rhythms and tortured, filthy bass blasts that were so well displayed on his Ninja Tune album and earlier 12"s on Combat and Rag and Bone. He's taken parts from the powerful original half-step colossus of "Super Mantis" and created a snarling whirlwind of clattering breaks. This remix originally appeared on Mary Anne Hobb's Scorn vs. King Cannibal soundclash on Radio 1, and now sees the light of release. Play this one loud and feel the fury.  Side B sees a totally different approach by Edinburgh's mysterious Wee DJ's. While Cannibal's version slashes you with chunky, razor snares, the Wee DJ's opt to go deep, drawing the listener into a cavernous abyss that's fathoms below, with miles of smothering bass pressure crushing you from above. Sinister, poisonous synth riffs, muted growls, pulsating subs and disturbed, skittering electronic textures permeate the track which cruises like a Kraken in the lightless depts at 134 beats per minute. Adopting a syncopated techno rhythm, this is one for fans of industrial techno exponents like Ancient Methods, Regis, Makaton, Anstam, AQF and Surgeon / Dubstep / Breaks / [10/7/2010]

Phaeleh : Afterglow (Akira Kiteshi Remix) / Low : Afterglow : 12"
Strap yourself in for one of the biggest tunes of the year... Currently riding a massive wave of online hype 'Afterglow' by Phaeleh (pronounced Fella) is one of those elusive beasts – a tune that manages to pair the rough texture and raw emotion of the underground with a yearning, delicate melody / vocal and epic scope comparable to the best electronic pop music of recent times. * Before the main event arrives with Phaeleh's album we have the remix supplied by Black Acre beat renegade Akira Kiteshi AKA Tommy Forrest. Forrest delivers a street smart re-rub that pumps up the percussion and drops in a weighty, serrated bass that acts as a perfect counterpoint to the haunting pads and blissed out vocal - truly massive! * On the flip we have non-album cut 'Low' which showcases' Phaeleh's ability to deliver stunning tracks across a wide variety of vibes... Haunting Middle Eastern horns sound over the sparse, spikey percussion and wobbling bass that call to mind a soundtrack for misty spires and minarets at dusk. / Dubstep / Electronic / [10/7/2010]

James Blake  : Klavierwerke EP : R & S Records : 12"
R&S Records return with another amazing single from the UK future bass scene, following the James Blake R&S debut ‘CMYK EP’ (possibly the biggest release of the year) and the awesome Pariah ‘Safehouses’ doublepack. Fact magazine recently quoted the label as having ‘its finger firmly on the pulse’ and ‘proveing that R&S remains a force to reckoned with’ – high praise indeed. 2010 saw James Blake emerge as the leading light in a populated world of forward thinking music, expertly disposing of the commonly used dubstep rule book with the Bell Sketch 12” on Hessle Audio before teaching daytime radio a strict lesson in quality control with his R&S Records debut CMYK EP. The worlds leading tastemakers were beside themselves, showering the internet with praise, whilst in the outer reaches of the blog ether, rumours of James’ songs began to surface. The Klavierwerke EP features the first glimpse of Blakes vocal, albeit cut, pitched and intricately woven into four tracks that offer an insight into James’ futuristic soundscape. Where the R&B sampling CMYK EP aimed at the dancefloor, the Klavierwerke EP finds itself on an insular and abstract plain, in places reminiscent of Burials emotive urban hymms while all the time maintaining the distinct originality that sets James apart from the rest. The title track, a sonic realisation of a recent Berlin escapade pays homage to Berghain, the cavernous HQ of techno, where languid pianos and James’ pitch shifted vocals collide head on with moody low frequencies. I Only Know (What I Know Now) is a contemplative piece where James’ voice is brought to the fore, casting a solemn gaze over his own re-sampled piano to create a contemporary masterpiece. “Don’t You Think I Do” follows a similar path, drawing on a side-chained lead synth and trademark piano. Tell Her Safe rounds off the EP, further affecting the vocal against a high tempo beat. The perfect follow up to the huge CMYK EP and a true representation of what’s around the corner for one of the most exciting artists to emerge in years. a1 James Blake - Klavierwerke a2 James Blake - Tell Her Safe b1 James Blake - I Only Know (What I Know Now) b2 James Blake - Don't You Think I Do / Dubstep / Electronic / [10/7/2010]
