LA OTRACINA “Reality Has Got to Die” (Holy Mountain - HOLY6307) CD  ( CDLA OTReal)
LA OTRACINA “Reality Has Got to Die” (Holy Mountain - HOLY6307) DBL.LP  (
LPLA OTReal)
***Since 2003, LA OTRACINA has been hell-bent on creating highly visionary music that melds sonic
ideas from the outer reaches of heavy and weird. The Brooklyn group has released three full-length albums and
twelve mini-albums, along with a slew of splits and compilation trackss on labels including Holy Mountain and band
founder ADAM KRINEY's own Colour Sounds Recordings. La Otracina's new double-album is the first to feature
drummer Kriney as lead vocalist, which catapults the trio into their most cohesive and focused release to date. Reality
Has Got to Die showcases the band's mind-blowing ability to evoke the timeless space-rock magic of Hawkwind, the
prog-improv wizardry of King Crimson, the fuck-yeah of early Metallica, and the synthesizer mind-warp of
Tangerine Dream, all fused in a Krautrock state of mind. This musical journey through deep and heavy sound worlds
envokes images of the emerald beyond and the darkest future alien universe, while also staying rooted in the
tradition of rock 'n' roll's ever-winding history. But don't confuse this for faux-New-Age blabber—this is street-wise
and from the gut, straight from the minds of three men living their art, sacrificing everything and manifesting a
boundless sphere of music, ideas, and imagery. LP version includes a download.

CLOUDLAND CANYON “Fin Eaves” (Holy Mountain - HOLY072811) LP  ( LPCLOUDFin)
CLOUDLAND CANYON “Fin Eaves” (Holy Mountain - HOLY072811) CD  ( CDCLOUDFin)
***NOW AVAILABLE ON VINYL!!! Originally an all-things-not-PANTHERS outlet for guitarist KIP ULHORN
swapping musical ideas with SIMON WOJAN (now in KING KHAN AND HIS SHRINES), CLOUDLAND CANYON
spent several years interpreting the more structurally-challenged examples of Krautrock, '70s psych of the dronediscovering
variety, spots of unnerving (in a good way) improv here and there, and the wonderful '90s bands that
started out as head-scratchers and ended up as innovators (first-wave Siltbreeze and Kranky highlights). Fin Eaves,
the band's third full-length overall, is the inaugural album from Cloudland Canyon Phase II. Joined once again by
significant-other KELLY ULHORN and a rotating cast of contributors, Kip has crafted a unique take on really, really
goddamned loud and noisy. Most important are big, unavoidable pop hooks clawing their way out of a pulsating,
throbbing thickness of guitar, bass, who-knows-what-type-of-effects and understated but omnipresent drumming.
Imagine a Flying Saucer Attack foundation supporting noise on par with the first two Iran albums, or maybe even
Jesu, with flowing vocals providing the major pop-hook components. LP includs a download.

NDF “Since We Last Met + Ricardo Villalobos Remix” (DFA - DFA2265) 12"  ( LPNDFSinc)
***NDF combines techno/dance visionary BRUNO PRONSATO’s (aka STEVEN FORD) talents with those of
BENJAMIN MYERS (aka SERGIO GIORGINI), one half of BENOIT & SERGIO. On their auspicious first outing,
“Since We Last Met,” NDF offer music almost perfectly summed up in their own words as “dance music twilit
by…melancholy.” The A-Side track, which begins nearly fully formed—with handclaps, keys and a sparse, bassy
percussive loop—is a roomy, wide-open construction of electronic pop. Sergio’s languid vocals echo outward into
whispered descriptions of familiar post-romance scenarios. There are ghostly voices that hang ephemerally in the
background, and a rippling percussive build through the song’s middle, but not a lot more. Instead of filling the track
to its brim, NDF’s minimal, but studied, arrangements leave plenty of room for every element to breathe—and
listeners to swoon. Side-B, notably, is a remix of the title track from superstar RICARDO VILLALOBOS. The famed
producer elongates the single to nearly three times its original length. Villalobos’ rebuilt track starts as a nearly naked
beat, with Sergio’s vocals layered into a haunting procession of blank-eyed repeated mantras. Villalobos adds here
and there—carefully and slowly—a steady, unerring hand keeping things just so. Perfection through precision and
subtlety.

VERONICA FALLS “Beachy Head” (Captured Tracks - CT 074) 7"  (07VERONBeac)
***The second VERONICA FALLS 7-inch finally gets a stateside release. "Veronica Falls have written a pop song
about everybody’s favourite place to top themselves and it is really really good. I mean, never has singing along to a
graphical location where peepul choose to end it all seemed quite such top larks. This is indie of a very particular,
very British, timeless and guileless sort, and it's also enough to remind a person why they plumped for plaid over
pop in the first place. Terrific."—Drowned in Sound.

ARP “Soft Wave” (Smalltown Supersound - STS 190) CD  ( CDARPSoft)
(STREET DATE - 9/28/2010) ***Recorded as ALEXIS GEORGOPOULOS (the man behind the music of ARP),
relocated from San Francisco to New York, The Soft Wave is expansive in scope, unfolding like a collection of short
stories or filmic vignettes, each piece building upon the other. The Soft Wave incorporates guitars, piano, flute, and
Ebows to create a dense brocade of sound. Georgopoulos even steps up to the mic for the gorgeous centerpiece "From
A Balcony Overlooking The Sea," calling to mind classic John Cale & Brian Eno. Though Georgopoulos still has a
knack for creating environments in which you want to recline, hammock-style, he's also peppered The Soft Wavewith
soft blasts of blissed-out fuzz. Recorded to 2-inch tape, it's warm glow & blown–out formalism will undoubtedly
appeal to a broad, sophisticated range of tastes. No Exports.

AUTRE NE VEUT “s/t” (Olde English Spelling Bee - OESB 49) LP  (LPAUTREs/t)
***The debut LP from AUTRE NE VEUT. Co-released with Upstairs CD-R, the label run by Dan Lopatin (of Oneohtrix
Point Never / Games). Mixed by Chris Coady at DNA Downtown, NYC. "Olde English Spelling Bee is one of those
labels you can implicitly trust to provide you with the most brilliantly weird music. Their latest missive is a self titled
shocker from Autre Ne Veut, a moocher from the same circles as Oneohtrix Point Never and all those weirdo
Brooklyn types with an uncanny line in subtly skewed pop queerness. Seriously, this is one of the strangest, most
jarringly unique records of the year, and we love it. At heart it's an incredible pop album with traces of Prince, Prefab
Sprout and Erasure at its core, but each melody and harmony is delivered with an off-key sleight of hand that really
plays on your preconceptions and experience of classic synth pop. There's definite nods to the soundtracks of John
Hughes movies and the like, but it's perhaps more like The Breakfast Club score remade by the Troma company for
some secret pay-per-view internet channel. Autre Ne Veut has possibly made one of our favourite albums this year
and we urge you to investigate without delay. Essential!"—Boomkat.

FUCKED UP “Year of the Ox” (Merge - MRG 391) 12"  ( lpfuckeox)
(STREET DATE - 9/28/2010) ***Just in time for the end of 2010, Merge Records will release FUCKED UP’s limitededition
12-inch Year of the Ox on September 28. Recorded over 6 months by JON DREW at Giant Studios in Toronto,
Year of the Ox is the band’s fourth record in the continuing 12 year cycle and adds to it’s evolving retinue of guest
musicians. The patient and building Year of the Ox features NIKA ROSA DANILOVA of ZOLA JESUS for a guest
vocal passage, and Toronto’s string quartet, NEW STRINGS OLD PUPPETS. The B-side “Solomon’s Song,” a gothic
vampire love tribute to Twilight, features a 5-minute saxophone solo from AERIN FOGEL of TGE BITTERS. and
heavy synthing from TRUST. No Export to Canada.

OF MONTREAL “False Priest” (Polyvinyl - PRC 200) CD  ( CDOF MOFals)
OF MONTREAL “False Priest” (Polyvinyl - PRC 200) DBL.LP  ( LPOF MOFals)
***OF MONTREAL’s critical breakthrough Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? catapulted the band to the upper
echelon of indie stardom. The album landed on over 30 major year-end lists including Paste, Pitchfork, Rolling Stone,
and Associated Press, and sold over 100,000 copies. False Priest, of Montreal’s newest full-length, promises to surpass
such lofty benchmarks. Teaming up with Grammy-nominated producer JON BRION (Kanye West, Fiona Apple), of
Montreal’s mastermind KEVIN BARNES traveled to famed Ocean Way Recording (Michael Jackson, Ray Charles,
Frank Sinatra) to record False Priest, his self-professed masterpiece. As discussed in features in Rolling Stone, SPIN,
Under the Radar and Pitchfork, False Priest is speaker-rattling heavy on the low end and features appearances by
JANELLE MONAE and SOLANGE KNOWLES (Beyoncé’s sister). The album also marks the return of organic
instruments as live drums, strings and pianos eschew the midi sounds and sequencers of previous albums. The album
features intricate packaging—a 20-page booklet of new paintings from DAVID BARNES and GEMINI TACTICS. Of
Montreal’s False Priest is one of fall’s most anticipated albums.

CACAW “Cacaw” (Permanent - PERM 021) LP  (LPCACAWCaca )
***“Back in early 2009, Permanent issued CACAW’s debut Get A Brain EP and quickly sold through the first pressing
of 300 copies. There was an immediate repress, which has also since sold out. Here we are just over a year and a half
later, proudly offering Cacaw's follow-up eponymous LP which has been pressed in a limited first edition of 500
copies. If you dug the brutal noise rock sounds crammed onto the one side of their debut EP, you're gonna flip over
their brand new LP. It's heavier, louder, and longer. That's right, two full sides of Cacaw's signature noise rock
brutality. A big selling point for their first release was the fact that two of the COUGHS are in Cacaw, however,
Cacaw have since garnered their own audience and the Coughs reference seems barely worth mentioning any longer.
For those of you who haven't heard them yet, Cacaw takes the Coughs sound and distills it down to a more minimal
yet no less intense brand of really fucking groovy noise rock. Cacaw have quickly become one of Chicago’s most
popular underground rock bands. Fans who have witnessed their live shows always seem to leave begging for more.
Check out some tracks here. Cacaw’s second record, just like their first release, is a doozie both sonically and
visually.”—Permanent

BLACK MATH “Phantom Power” (Permanent - PERM 019) LP  (LPBLACKPhan)
(STREET DATE - 9/28/2010) ***WFMU aptly described BLACK MATH’s debut LP from 2009 as “Dark-wave buried
in tape hiss, with grinding synth, electric cello, and drum machine. The three piece lists Depeche Mode and Big Black
as influences, but they’re straight up 80s.” The band will also tell you that Siouxsie and the Banshees are a big
influence, but Black Math has a completely compelling and catchy, but quite dark and mysterious sound all their
own. Nine killer tracks of dark-wave pop including a cover of the Anals’ “Commando of Love.” First pressing of 500
copies.

CALL ME LIGHTNING “When I Am Gone My Blood Will Be Free” (Dusty Medical - DMR 22) LP
(LPCALL When) ***"CALL ME LIGHTNING takes its name from an early Who song, but the Milwaukee post-punk
power trio waited until its third album, When I Am Gone My Blood Will Be Free, to make a full-on Who tribute. SHANE
HOCHSTETLER attacks the drums with the fill-happy, thunderous power of Keith Moon, KRIS MAEDKE-RUSSELL
stands in the stoic John Entwistle role with basslines that slither amid the sonic wreckage like metallic snakes, and
NATHAN LILLEY pounds out bloody-palmed Pete Townshend power chords while affecting a Roger Daltrey-esque
scream echoing across the teenage wasteland. It might come off like bald imitation if CML didn't infuse all the Live At
Leeds chest-thumping with as much bug-eyed intensity and genuinely breathtaking majesty as it does on When I Am
Gone. Call Me Lightning doesn't scale down stadium-rock; it squeezes all that bigness and velocity into tiny
basements until the roof disappears in a swirling mushroom cloud."—Steven Hyden (The Onion). LP includes a
download and is pressed in an edition of 500 copies.

SUGAR STEMS “Sweet Sounds Of” (Dream On - CDSUGARSWEE) CD  (CDSUGARSwee)
SUGAR STEMS “Sweet Sounds Of” (Dusty Medical - DMR 23) LP  (LPSUGARSwee)
***"Bands everywhere are partying like it's 1963 in 2010, digging out old girl-group harmonies and Brill Building
melodies and sprucing them up with crunchy guitars. SUGAR STEMS aren't exactly revolutionaries in this regard,
but the Milwaukee band's debut, Sweet Sounds Of The Sugar Stems, is still a sparkling example of how this template
can spin infectious power-pop gems that marry the sexy purr of Ronnie Spector with the giddy energy of The Go-
Gos. Sweet Sounds is built around the interplay of ex-FLIPS singer-guitarist BETSY BORST and DREW
FREDRICHSEN, who retains the gum-chomping, sleeve-rolling cool he mastered as guitarist for Sheboygan's JETTY
BOYS. Every song is packed with big open chords and even bigger vocal harmonies supplied Borst and Fredrichsen,
particularly on the soaring 'I Don't Wanna Be Around You' and the riff-heavy 'Next To You.' Fredrichsen's rockabilly
past with THE LEG HOUNDS sneaks in for the album-opener 'Goin' Down,' as well as the walking shuffle of 'You're
So Fine,' and melancholy closer 'Make You Love Me.' Sugar Stems may not be smashing any boundaries, but Sweet
Sounds is smashingly good at mining pleasures within its own sugary parameters."—Joel Shanahan (The Onion). CD
released by Dream On in Japan. LP includes a download and pressed in an edition of 300 copies.

FACTUMS “Roman Soldier” (HBSP-2X - HBSP-2X 017) 12"  (LPFACTURoma)
***Three-piece unit FACTUMS and Captcha (HBSP-2x) Records, of Seattle and Chicago, present Roman Soldier, a
multi-dimensional sonic experience of cinematic beauty. The first decaying hit of this record sounds like the approach
of an apocalyptic army overheard from the inside of an insurgent’s desolate cave. Suspense builds as the cadence of
the piece accelerates, the twists and turns of its theme provoking high anxiety and cold sweats. As tension climaxes
and the sonic assault begins to fade, sounds evocative of dazed contemplation suffuse the aural space, creating an
impression of crystalline clarity that might be reminiscent of an introspective montage, replaying the last conversation
you had with the one you love. In its primal minimalism, calculated chaos and transcendental ambience, this record
presents an opportunity to abandon the banality of modern life and lose yourself in the complexities of your
imagination. The Roman Soldier EP follows up the exquisite release Flowers on the Sacred Bones label, arriving in
advance of the highly anticipated release Gilding the Lilies. This record, featuring an etching on the reverse, is being
produced in an edition of 500 copies and will not be repressed.

EPSILONS “Kill’em Deader” (HBSP-2X - HBSP-2X 018) LP  (LPEPSILKill)
***NOW AVAILABLE ON VINYL!!! Features TY SEGALL and CHARLIE MOONHEART. “Ty Segall may be a
household name in the modern garage-punk scene, but many are unaware of his previous band EPSILONS who
released two mighty records in 2006 and 2007. They were mere lads, [barely] accomplished beyond their young years,
but genuine teenagers making genuine teenage punk rock. This, the second of their two LPs, sounds like dark
carnival music from a SoCal county fair on the wrong side of the tracks looking through the same Funhouse mirror
previously distorted by the likes of the Mummies, Thee Oh Sees, and countless other backyard heroes spewing classic
doses of house party madness. There's mondo guitar, bass, drums, and plenty of organ and vocal creep to keep us on
our heels & toes. It scrapes raw like fresh road-raspberry from a drunken skateboard fall but feels as good as your
girlfriend's [or boyfriend's] tight/soft ass in your hand right before s/he punches you and tells you to fuck off for
feeling her/him up in front of everyone. Epsilons love how it throbs & stings and so do you. It will make you dance &
sing along, make you grab another cold one, and make you tell your friends how good this record is and how if
they're gonna listen to Ty Segall, then they need to ‘get his early shit with Epsilons, man!’ cuz THAT is where the
action is. Killed'em Deader Than A Six Card Poker Hand was released by the venerable LA label Retard Disco on CD in
the summer of 2007, and is issued here for the first time on vinyl by the oddly handsome Chicago label Captcha, who
released [in their previous label incarnation as HBSP-2X] the utterly awesome Ty Segall odds n'sods compilation Horn
The Unicorn. Buy this in bulk, hide it in the trunk, and take it across the border. As sonic currency, it's weightier than
gold.”—JMCARDLE

DESTRUCTION UNIT “Eclipse” (Perfectly Round - PRR 004) LP  (LPDESTREcli)
***DESTRUCTION UNIT (RYAN ROUSSEAU of REATARDS, EARTHMEN & STRANGERS) returns with a new
lineup and sound on Eclipse. This eight-track follow up to a split LP with Black Sunday takes the band in a new
direction from previous releases. Less moody and synth heavy then Destruction Unit of the past, however still packs
a punch. The lineup change moves the band away from a Digital Leather /Lost Sounds vibe, towards Kraut / Desert
Psych territories. The first pressing of this LP (clocking in at around 35 minutes) is limited to 500 copies and is coreleased
by FDH records and Perfectly Round.

HISTORICS “Infinidelity Pt. 2” (Rvng Intl - RVNGNL 03.5) 12"  (lphistoinf2)
***Metropolitan Indian & RVNG Intl. present the HISTORICS Infinidelity 12-inch series. Inspired by a short story of
the same name by author Chris Leo, Infinidelity offers ten songs from Historics late 2009 album debut, Strategies For
Apprehension, transformed by an assembly of artists from the outer ether of the electronic music world. Infinidelity Pt.
2 locks into the groove in hit form with a "Taverns" remix by Sweden's JACKPOT, a track that neatly pits the vocal
track against a jack happy beat and arpeggios that joyfully amp up the outro. KOOL KEITH pops his head in the
UFO! remix of "Take it to the Top," making it cool to rap about Eric Clapton over the hyper-dub marching band
madness. The 12-inch continues on its eclectic way with a metallic revision of "Things Alright" by RVNG sound
racketeers ALLEZ-ALLEZ and ends with a Kool Keith redux and some Miami Bass / saxophone skeeze with
Montreal's CFCF at the helm of another "Take it to the Top" remix.

PSYCHIC ILLS “FRKWYS Vol. 4” (Rvng Intl - FRKWYS 04) 12"  ( lppsychfrk4)
***The fourth volume of FRKWYS sees the work of PSYCHIC ILLS reinterpreted by an ancestry of artists that reflect
the New York City group's artistic trajectory over the last seven years of avant exploration. True to the FRKWYS
series, each artist selected to collaborate with Psychic Ills helped pioneer a new realm in electronic music. This volume
is as much a testament to Psychic Ills' effort to push their sound forward through new eyes and ears as it is their
interest linking the lineage of the artists involved. The record reads like a family tree, its roots firmly planted in
psychedelic German soils, the trunk a techno pillar, and branches tangled in the experimental ether. Almost a year in
the making, FRKWYS Vol. 4 is a detailed document of like-minded communication from afar and close. Psychic Ills
first initiated contact with HANS-JOACHIM IRMLER (FAUST) who delivers a primal / industrial strength double
take on "Witchcraft Breaker" from Dins, the band's first full length. Detroit techno progenitor JUAN ATKINS takes on
"Mantis", from Ills' second album Mirror Eye, with a boiler room deep mix that whumps to a soulful bass line and
scans 180 phase fields. Psychic Ills tour companion GIBBY HAYNES (BUTTHOLE SURFERS) grips "I Take You As
My Wife Again," another track from Mirror Eye, and hypnotically oscillates it into dark dimensions of synthesized
rhythm. Limited to 550 vinyl copies, packaged in thick black jackets with a two color adhesive wrap.

JASON SIMON “s/t” (Tee Pee - TPE 119) CD  ( CDSIMONs/t)
JASON SIMON “s/t” (Tee Pee - TPE 119) LP  ( LPSIMONs/t)
***JASON SIMON, best known for his work as the guitarist and singer for the seminal heavy psych band known as
DEAD MEADOW, releases his first solo record. It is a stripped down and intimate record filled with intricate guitar
work and poignant well-thought lyrics. Some songs are filled with dark brooding drones. Others songs leisurely carry
the listener down meandering rivers as they slowly develop in their own unhurried way. There are slight shades of
Bert Jansch, Leonard Cohen, Sandy Bull, and Townes Van Zandt but only shades as it is most certainly its own thing.
It is a record to remind the listener that heavy does not come from loud distortion and huge drums but comes from
the depth within the song itself.
TEENAGE JESUS & THE JERKS “Shut Up And Bleed” (Cherry Red - CY 101) LP  (-
LPTEENAShut) ***Formed by underground music gurus LYDIA LUNCH and JAMES CHANCE in 1976, TEENAGE
JESUS & THE JERKS flourished in an underground scene that eschewed the commercialization, triteness and idiocy
of punk, dominated (particularly in the USA) by bands that, despite being decidedly marginalized, in some ways just
wanted to have fun and get wasted on a Saturday night. Teenage Jesus and the Jerks was not about having fun. It was
about nihilism and confrontation, about ripping mainstream society to shreds and dancing on its grave. The music, if
you will, was more of a means to an end, almost a metaphor for how at odds the members felt with mainstream
society, and it was this forceful message preached by this new prophet (the “Teenage Jesus”) that has spoken to the
past three decades of disillusioned youths. These twenty-one tracks taken from their brief time together (1977-1979)
represent the bulk of their recorded material, including the band's earliest material (recorded in Soho in NYC 1977
when James Chance was still in the band), their first single (Orphans / Less Of Me, 1978), their second single (Baby
Doll / Freud In Flop / Race Mixing), songs from the “Pink EP”, produced by Robert Quine of the Voidoids, songs
that appeared on the legendary 1978 No New York compilation, etc.

NAILS “Unsilent Death” (Southern Lord - LORD 127) CD  ( CDNAILSUnsi)
(STREET DATE - 9/28/2010) ***Southern California’s NAILS was formed in December 2007 by TODD JONES (ex-
TERROR) along with the help of TAYLOR YOUNG (CREMETORIUM) and JOHN GLANELLI. Nails is beyond
brutality. Filthy, vicious and raw. Imagine a cross between the good AmRep bands of the ‘90s (Helmet, Hammerhead,
Today Is The Day, Unsane) and Cro-Mags Age of Quarrel riffage played at breakneck speeds. Originally released by
Six Feet Under in very limited fashion and on vinyl by the band.

THE SECRET “Solve et Coagula” (Southern Lord - LORD 121) CD  ( CDSECRESolv)
(STREET DATE - 9/28/2010) ***Southern Lord is proud to announce the newest members of its coven, brutal Italian
group: THE SECRET. These days Its extremely rare that we receive a demo submission that blows us away. This was
the case with the demo that the Secret had sent us. Their sound is relentless, uncompromising and extremely lethal.
Anti-melody, pro-cacophony! Born and shaped in 2003 within the motionless city of Trieste, Italy, The Secret come to
life as an output for rage, darkness and negativity. The Secret combines elements of crust/grind, primitive black
metal, dark soundscapes and monolithic riffs to take the listener by the hand through an hallucinated trip towards a
foggy and yet invisible tomorrow. Their Southern Lord debut Solve et Coagula, is the band’s sonic interpretation of a
total loss of faith in social system, religion, personal redemption and every institution. You are forewarned of an
approaching monolithic steamroller whose destiny is to flatten all in its path!

ASH POOL “For Which He Plies The Lash” (Hospital Productions - HOS 267) LP  (LPASH Pfor)
***NOW AVAILABLE ON VINYL!!! Second full length. Eight songs of big bang black metal by DOMINIC FERNOW
(PRURIENT, COLD CAVE, Hospital Productions) and KRIS KAPKE (ALBERICH, NORTHERN CROSS). Our
comrades at Second Layer tell it like it is: "The duo blasts out raw and disgusting primitive black metal, with lots of
balance between neck-breaking speed and lurking mid-tempo howl, with even some grind-ish elements for good
measure."

GUILT OF / MERZBOW “Split” (Chrome Peeler - CPR 12) LP  (LPGUILTMerz)
***BACK IN STOCK!!! Japanese noise legend MERZBOW offers up an assault of violent, swarming electronic
distortion swirling with shards of brutal high-end feedback and cosmic oscillating tones, creating a vast whirlpool of
caustic aural grit and buzz while Industrial noise punks THE GUILT OF, a New Orleans-based group made up of
MIKE IX WILLIAMS (EYEHATEGOD, OUTLAW ORDER, ARSON ANTHEM) and RYAN MCKERN
(WOLVHAMMER) layer waves of piano, fuzz, tortured vocals, drums and distorted sub-bass to create a mesmerizing
and crushing drone-like effect.

ENDLESS BLOCKADE / UNEARTHLY TRANCE “Split” (Chrome Peeler - CPR 11) LP  (LPENDLEUnea)
***BACK IN STOCK!!! New York doom metal juggernaut UNEARTHLY TRANCE offer up a side long onslaught of
D-beat and doom before plummeting deep into the noise depths while Toronto's THE ENDLESS BLOCKADE
combine power-violence and power-electronics to brutal effect including a Slogun cover.
HYENA “We See You” (Hi-Speed Soul - HSS 1035) LP  ( LPHYENAWe S)
(STREET DATE - 9/28/2010) ***HYENA is the indie-electro musical lovechild of MICHAEL COOPER (TRANSFER)
and BRYAN STRATMAN (Producer, Capricorn Studios). The band exploded onto the scene with their debut album
‘We See You’, a stellar combination of crossover indie-electronic tracks with dub step, indie-rock and synth
influences. The live show is a must see electrifying experience, combining high energy electro beats with the organic,
raw nature of live instruments and superior musicianship. Includes a free digital download coupon that includes
two bonus remixes of tracks. LP is limited to 500 copies on pink vinyl.

ARAB ON RADAR “Soak the Saddle” (Skin Graft - GR 60) LP  ( LPARAB Soak)
***BACK IN PRINT ON COLORED VINYL!!! Powerful and cathartic, ARAB ON RADAR is a unique and
unprecedented brand of psycho-neurological terrorism. This strain is the most dangerous, now free-er, more alive
and unrooted, any semblance to daddy's rock’n’roll is long gone. Live Arab On Radar generate more energy and
more hysteria on stage than any band you have ever seen.

AIDS WOLF “March To The Sea” (Skin Graft - GR 99) CD  ( CDAIDS Marc)
AIDS WOLF “March To The Sea” (Skin Graft - GR 99) LP 9.95 ( LPAIDS Marc)
***AIDS Wolf has formalized its sound into a tight construction relying on intentional dissonance, polyrhythms and
disjunctive compositional forms. The band takes its cues from “classic” New York No Wave, ‘90s Midwestern No
Wave, vegan cooking, ‘70s proto-punk, Beefheartian modes, Ville-Marie school of white elephant architecture,
Literature, post-war continental modern composition and their unrivaled network of friends and acquaintances the
world over. First LP pressing on colored vinyl.

TUNABUNNY “Tunabunny” (Happy Happy Birthday To Me - HHBTM 122) LP  (LPTUNABTuna)
***TUNABUNNY sounds like nothing you’ve ever heard before. Their debut album walks an amphetamine path
between Pere Ubu and The Raincoats. Three girls, one guy, and a synthesizer sitting on a carpet covered in paint and
the sprawled out works of Julio Cortazar, Tunabunny has fallen down the rabbit hole and is begging you to follow,
even as they doubt your own existence. Growing up in Athens, Georgia surrounded by a surplus of instruments and
boredom, Tunabunny set out to remind people that pop/rock music shouldn’t be about technical ability or social
networking. They’re wrong of course. Pop/rock music in the 21 st century is a played-out corpse being skullfucked
by overprivileged boys and girls hoping to manufacture a personality for themselves out of something that other
people think is cool. That is why Tunabunny thinks of pop/rock as something that should be destroyed, or at the very
least subverted, but would probably be better for everyone involved if it simply ceased to exist. LP comes with
digital download.

LIL B “Rain in England” (Weird Forest - WEIRD 57) CD  ( CDLIL Brain)
LIL B “Rain in England” (Weird Forest - WEIRD 57) DBL.LP  (LPLIL Brain)
***“Just who is LIL B? THE BASED GOD has scored so many Youtube hits and crammed so many full length albums
under his belt it can be hard for youngbloods to get a handle on what this rap savant is all about. Is he the internet
sensation with a hundred girls on his dick? Or could he be the leading light of a new hip hop underground, one that
has finally wrenched itself from the grubby backpacks and the cynicism of the mid 1990s? He's both, and with Rain in
England the story gets even more mysterious and far more incomprehensible. Those already up to speed on B's
molasses-beats and stream-of-consciousness ('based') flow will think they got him pegged. Internet hype and heavy
tunes—battle raps and copious interviews. He's the anti-Drake—all ill-mannered, hungry and mercilessly lo-fidelity,
and unafraid to make a beef over Twitter. Rain in England shows an antithesis to this character, a tempered side to his
ADD report card. Part new-age ambient and part hip hop, the record is uncharacteristically fluid, with B's singular
rhymes falling perfectly into a bed of syrupy electronics. B never falls into the trap of allowing himself to get too
abstractedly wordy, yet we always retain the sense that he's not your typical street rapper. He's young, but there are
stories to be told, and those stories are heard through the frosted glass of burned synthesizer melodies and
disintegrating pads. Singular, disturbing and certain to polarize listeners, Rain In England is an album destined for a
new breed of rap fans. Lil B may just be the genre's brightest young hope; what exactly that genre is, only time will
tell.”—John Twells

EXPRESSWAY YO-YO DIETING “Bubblethug” (Weird Forest - WEIRD 52) CD  (
CDEXPREBubb)
EXPRESSWAY YO-YO DIETING “Bubblethug” (Weird Forest - WEIRD 52) DBL.LP  (LPEXPREBubb)
***PAT MAHERR is probably best known for his explorations into fetishistic industrial ambience under the
INDIGNANT SENILITY moniker, but cassette hoarders will know that the Oregon-based producer runs a syruplaced
sideline in half-speed rap. Through a handful of tapes, Maherr's DJ SCREW-influenced sound has already
bagged him something of a cult following, but Bubblethug, his sophomore 'album proper' truly takes things further
into the abyss, melting his signature pulse into a dark, viscous tar. Pitch shifting rap tracks might not be a new idea at
this point (hell, it's practically a mainstream practice in Houston), but Maherr takes this as just an entry point—slicing
and stretching his chosen joints into a buzzing symphony of stutters, noise and chewed-up cassette tape. The
resulting pieces are thick, heavy and pummelling—a demonic mid-point between punk and rap that mercifully
avoids ska. The distant skeletons of the original songs are all but dissolved as the beats decompose noisily around
them, dissolving choruses and crushing the life out of guest emcees. Links to lo-fi music, hypnogogic pop and
psychedelic music will no doubt be made, but Bubblethug is defiantly hip hop from beginning to end. There's a beat,
there's a rapper and with the help of Maherr's spread of tape machines and filters he's taking the genre to places it
rarely gets to go. It might only tentatively balance on the 'elements'... but when rap's got no other place to go, all that's
left is to travel deep down into the annals of unacceptability.

SERGE GAINSBOURG & BRIGITTE BARDOT “Bonnie & Clyde” (4 Men With Beards - 4M 178) LP
( LPGAINSBonn) ***BACK IN STOCK!!! Featuring a couple of duets, some BRIGITTE
BARDOT-sung, SERGE GAINSBOURG-penned numbers, and a number of Serge-only tunes, this is not, technically, a
completely collaborative record. It is, however, one of Gainsbourg’s finest releases featuring a wide range of styles
from moody, funky French-pop (“Bonnie And Clyde”), to barroom piano jazz (“Bubble Gum”), to Afro-Caribbean
rhythms (“Pauvre Lola” and “Baudelaire”), to the swinging ‘60s pop he was most known for at the time (“Docteur
Jeckyll et Monsieur Hyde”). A classic from these two French heroes (originally released in 1968).

BERNARD PURDIE “Lialeh Soundtrack” (Light In The Attic - LITA 003 N) LP  (
LPPURDILial) ***AVAILABLE AGAIN ON VINYL!!! A reissue of the 1974 porn soundtrack—often called the "Black
Deep Throat"—composed and produced by legendary soul drummer BERNARD "PRETTY" PURDIE (JAMES
BROWN, CURTIS MAYFIELD, ARETHA FRANKLIN, LOUIS ARMSTRONG, et al.). Pressed on 180-gram vinyl.

DAN MELCHIOR UND DAS MENACE “Christmas for the Crows” (Daggerman - DMR 009) LP  (LPMELCHChri)
*** DAN MELCHIOR’s Christmas for the Crows full-length is a
fully realized album that explores his latest psych inclinations and twists them up with barbed wire folk lyrics and
jagged guitar. A new milestone for sure.

GOLDEN BOYS “Thee Electric Wolfman” (Daggerman - DMR 015) LP  (LPGOLDEThee)
*** The fourth album from Austin, TX beer-drenched rockers,
GOLDEN BOYS, is a shambolic collection of party rockers and soulful wailers. Produced by GREG ASHLEY (of GRIS
GRIS) with guest musicians including Ashley, Memphis legend ROSS JOHNSON and the SPIDER BAGS. Co-released
with Alien Snatch Records.

HUM OF THE DRUID “Norse Fumigation” (SNSE - SNSE 077) LP  (LPHUM Onors)
***HUM OF THE DRUID’s third (and best) LP for SNSE, full of depth and space and of very dark mood. Crunch and
crackle so crisp and so sharp and on top of everything. Metal on metal. Sustained bass and cavernous drone that
threatens to invert the air in the room. This is the sound of modern industrial collapsing, collapsing.
PHANTOM PAYN DAYS “s/t” (DeStijl - IND 079) LP  ( LPPHANTs/t)

***Since the late ‘70s, while in the widely neglected 39 CLOCKS, JUERGEN GLEUE made records that never sold and
played gigs that few ever saw. Though an important exponent of PHANTOM PAYN DAYS LP made in the mid-tolate
‘90s has never been released. It's Gleue's final LP and overflows with all the elements that romanticized, loner /
stoner music claims, an encoded expression of highly private feelings, an ambiguous, emotional quotient, and a dark,
murkily melodic vibe.

FRANCISCO MEIRINO & DAVE PHILLIPS “We Are None of Us” (Misanthopic Agenda - MAR 029) CD
(CDMEIRIWe A) ***FRANCISCO MEIRINO (PHROQ) and DAVE PHILLIPS (SCHIMPFLUCH GRUPPE) have
collaborated on this extremely dynamic electroacoustic studio album. Through meticulous arrangement of electronics,
processed sound and field recordings they create a dark and unsettling audio narrative. We Are None of Us exemplifies
these two masters at the best of their craft. Limited edition of 300 copies packaged in digipaks. A split release with
Domizil in Switzerland.

Hip Hop & Club Jams…
DIPLO FEAT. LIL JON “U Don’t Like Me” (Mad Decent - MAD 116) PICTURE DISC 12"  (
LPDIPLOU DPI) ***“DIPLO teams up with the king of crunk LIL JON to the drop a rap punk dubstep hybrid track ‘U
Don’t Like Me!’ Rumors of a collaboration between the two influential producers have been circulating around the
internet for well over a year, starting with a few twitter posts and then following up with a youtube video of the two
jamming out this track in the studio. It’s officially time to release this beast properly to the world. Lil Jon starts the
track off by attacking the listener with his unmistakable voice while Diplo perfectly compliments him with that dirty
dubstep wobble. It’s a two ton collision that’s been leaving every dance floor it touches completely demolished.
Dubstep mosh pit? Yes, we’ve seen it on more than once occasion. For the official remix, we hired the SOUTH
RAKKAS CREW because we knew they were the only ones that could tame this thing. They went and did just the
opposite though, flipping Diplo’s dubstep wobble into a hard hitting electro banger. We’re also including the acapella
and instrumental—please use ‘em!”—Mad Decent. Limited to 1,000 copies.

MAJOR LAZER “Pon De Floor” (Mad Decent - MAD 102) 12"  (LPMAJORPon)
***BACK IN STOCK!!! With its continued reign over dancefloors worldwide and unwavering support from every big
name in the international DJ scene, there is no ego involved in saying that MAJOR LAZER’s “Pon De Floor” is one of,
if not the biggest, club records of 2009. Includes the original “Pon De Floor” featuring VYBZ KARTEL along with
three exclusive remixes from DROP THE LINE, NINJASONIK and BLUE BEAR (TRUE TIGER.

BLACK MILK “Album of the Year” (Fat Beats - FB 5132) CD  ( CDBLACKAlbu)
***As the buzz of many of hip hop’s young leaders-to-be evolves from loud commotion into hushed whispers,
BLACK MILK has stayed relevant by remaining focused on creating music that endures. He’s achieved recognition
from fans, critics, and his peers as one of the best producers around, and when coupling that talent with his sharp
lyricism and stylish delivery as an emcee, Black has proven to be one of the most vital hip hop artists of his
generation. This is already clear to those who heard his 2008 album Tronic, which capped a successful and
astonishingly prolific year. Tronic showcased a growth in production technique that few expected from a beatmaker
best-known for chopping samples, as his signature drums were now peppered with live instrumentation and richer
arrangements. Features guest appearances from AB, ROYCE DA 5’9”, ELZHI, MELANIE RUTHERFORD, MONICA
BLAIRE, DANNY BROWN, and MR. PORTER.

BLACK MILK “Don Cornelius” (Fat Beats - FB 7002) 7"  ( 07BLACKDon)
***This Limited Edition 7-inch single comes in a full-color sleeve, and is both written and produced by BLACK MILK.
In anticipation of his forthcoming release Album of the Year, Black Milk has responded to the demand of his fans to
bring several of his acclaimed online-only tracks to vinyl format. A predictably diverse selection of tracks grace this
single, with the synth-driven tracks “Dreams” and “In the A.M.” joined by the samplebased showcases “Don
Cornelius,” “Mo Power,” and “Set Go.” No matter the mood, tempo, or time signature of the beat, Black Milk the
emcee again proves that he can more than hold his own on the mic.

DAM FUNK “Hood Pass Intact” (Stones Throw - STH 2253) 12"  ( LPDAM Fhood)
***DAM FUNK will be joined on the vocal mix of the standout track from his Toeachizown 5-LP set by West Coast
legend MC EIHT, marking their first collaboration in nearly a decade. Most people remember MC Eiht as the lead
member of the group COMPTON’S MOST WANTED, or for his infamous MC battle with DJ Quik, or for his
unforgettable role in the film Menace 2 Society, but only the left coasters know and respect him as the originator of the
phrase “Gyeah”, which has been bitten and jacked by every MC and rapper on the planet, including Jay Z. Hood Pass
Intact 12-inch also features the vocals of STEVE ARRINGTON on the track “4 My Homies.” Arrington is best known
as the lead singer of the group SLAVE during the Dayton funk outfit’s most popular period. “4 My Homies” is the
initial project from the team of Arrington and DaM-FunK, and a precursor to their full-length on Stones Throw.
Rounding out the four-track Hood Pass Intact are contributions from DEVONWHO on the instrumental re-edit of
Toeachizown’s “Come On Outside” and JT DONALDSON and TK co-producing the non-album single “How It Be
Between U & Me?”

Punk And Hard Stuff…
GEHENNA “Upon the Grave Hill” (King of the Monsters - KOTM 17) LP  (LPGEHENUpon)
***King Of The Monsters is proud to present the triumphant return of one of hardcore's most notorious and vicious
bands. After releasing records on CrimethInc, Crawlspace and Area 51, this Southern California outfit return with
another devastating blast of uncompromising, metallic hardcore that is as ugly as it is sincere. No punches pulled
music that is a sonic bombardment that will appeal to fans of Unruh, Catharsis, and Enewetak. Comes with poster
insert. Edition of 550 copies on blue vinyl.

DEFEATIST / TRIAC / ASRA “Three Way Split” (Deep Six - DS 128) LP  (LPDEFEAThre)
***Featuring former members of KALIBAS and ANODYNE, DEFEATIST (NYC) deliver a devastating blend of techgrind
with intricately woven guitar work mixed with a crushing “Melvins on warp speed”-style rhythm section.
Baltimore's TRIAC juxtapose classic Amphetamine Reptile muscle with modern powerviolence, resulting in a
crushing fusion of raw grind and noise-rock forcefulness punctuated by massive drumming & filthy bass. NYC's
ASRA, sounding like Autopsy re-envisioned by mid-’90s powerviolence-obsessed thugs, offer up crushing tracks
filled with ever-shifting drum patterns, innovative thrash-influenced riffs, and varied vocal patterns. This 3-way split
will be ASRA's final offering on unreleased material.

BASTARD NOISE “A Culture of Monsters” (Deep Six - DS 133) CD  ( CDBASTAA Cu)
BASTARD NOISE “A Culture of Monsters” (Deep Six - DS 133) LP  (LPBASTAA Cu)
***BACK IN STOCK!!! THE BASTARD NOISE follows a first quarter 2010 release of The Red List (a split with Endless
Blockade) with a full-length "magnum opus" titled A Culture of Monsters. A paramount product of composition, sonicrendering
and package, this second volume of bass / percussion / electronics structured work realizes the full, true
power of "THE SKULL" as a critical force in contemporary musical expression. Here "spun-steel-girder" virtuoso
ERIC WOOD and Trogotronic "electronic-ace" W T NELSON are joined by original MAN IS THE BASTARD masterdrummer
JOEL CONNELL for what could become the most interesting T.B.N combination to date following the
departure of Danny Walker and his unmatched performance in the previous lineup. Both LP and CD formats feature
unhinged brutish imagery: The LP clad in full-color gatefold album jacket & poster; The compact disc is
manufactured as a miniature LP with an all-paper, baby-gatefold album jacket & full-color twelve-page booklet. Both
formats contain complete documentation including lyrical content and wry "skull-commentary" for every cut. A
Culture of Monsters will pleasurably submerge sonic desire until it is abruptly crushed under extreme pressure of
singular execution and stunning complexity.

HARMONY KORINE “Trash Humpers” (Drag City - DC 439) DVD  ( DVKORINTras)
***In the Summer of 2010, the underground trend of “trash-humping” jumped the Nashville city limits as the film
Trash Humpers spread across the nation, screening in movie theaters, galleries, bars and grills and anyplace, really,
indoors or out, that could draw a crowd to see the thing. Filmmaker HARMONY KORINE often accompanied the
film, standing around and answering questions when he wasn’t doing something else. It was something to see, but
the only problem was, all you could do once you’d walked away was revisit the images seared into your brain for the
rest of your life. Now, the official DVD release of Trash Humpers is here for you to take with you to whatever your
destiny has to offer you. Includes the extra featurettes “Mac and Plac,“ and “Blood of Havana,“ as well as deleted
scenes that everyone forgot about after making this but are actually kind of cool! About the Filmmaker: Harmony
Korine has been a party to some of the most enervating films of the last two decades, including Gummo, Julien Donkey-
Boy, and Mister Lonely.

Seven Inches…
DRUGS DRAGONS “I Hate Rat People” (Drugs Dragons - 07DRUGS I HA) 7"  (07DRUGSI Ha)
***DRUGS DRAGONS was formed in the Spring of 2009 from the ashes of Milwaukee's NIGHT TERRORS. Gaining
lead vocalist LUKE CHAPPELLE (best known for his visual art and being one half of Milwaukee booking/DJ duo
THE GET DRUNK), along with his brother ZACH on bass, the group is rounded out with the inimitable TONY
SAGGER on guitar and backing vocals and ERIC MILDEW on drums. Like previous Tony Sagger musical projects,
Drugs Dragons carries a violent, menacing, primal vibe undercut with retarded, resin-caked humor and hairy, beerbreathed
testosterone. However this band is a whole new beast for different times, pioneering a weird, hard rock
sound reminiscent of the Testors knocking back shots with AC/DC and Alice Cooper, or The Cramps sharing a joint
with the Butthole Surfers through a codeine haze. Limited edition of 300.

PLEXI 3 “Calculated Romance” (Dusty Medical - DMR 08) 7"  (07PLEXICalc)
***SPECIAL FAREWELL REISSUE!!! Sadly, PLEXI 3 have broken everyone's heart for real this time, and are calling it
quits. ADAM is heading West and RYAN is getting out from behind the drumkit and up front with WENDY, sharing
guitar/vocals/bass duties in the new kickass band RAMMA LAMMA (with Joel from The Jet Set). For the last Plexi 3
show at the Dusty Medical Records 5th Anniversary Party, the label made up 100 more of their debut 7-inch from
back in 2007, with some on peach, some on clear, and all with a new cover design by ADAM WIDENER.

OUTDOORSMEN “You And Me Rock’n’Roll” (Daggerman - DMR 017) 7"  (07OUTDOYou)
***A four song seven-inch from San Francisco's reigning kings of 'don't give a fuck' garage-punk. This outing leans on
the poppier side of their songbook and has some recent crowd favorites.

PHOTOBOOTH “Da Me Tus Besos” (Daggerman - DMR 011) 7"  (07PHOTODA M)
The first 7-inch from one of the best current Bay Area bands.
Awesome garage-pop tunes that'll bounce around in your brain for days. Features former members of FM KNIVES
and MOTHBALLS.

SPIDER BAGS “Hey Delinquents” (Daggerman - DMR 012) 7"  (07SPIDEHEY)
***AVAILABLE Their first 7-inch and a follow-up to their LP on Birdman
Records. SPIDER BAGS began as a side-project for DAN McGEE, the guitarist of the DC SNIPERS. Now they're a
North Carolina based drunken shamble of a roots band with feet in the trashy garage and punk worlds. The flip side
of this was produced by CAMERO WEREWOLF, the scum wiz behind Live Fast Die.

GAY BEAST “Charm” (Skin Graft - GR 98) 7"  ( 07GAY Bchar)
***GAY BEAST’s first new studio recordings since the release of their acclaimed Second Wave album. Previously only available
on tour, each copy sports hand silk-screened covers.

SOURPATCH “Mira Mija” (Happy Happy Birthday To Me - HHBTM 125) 7"  (07SOURPMira)
***“Four friends switching off song writing duties over four tracks on what might be the best single this year. I could
make up some crap to try to sell you this record, but I think Keenan Dowers of the Three Imaginary Girls sums this
band up perfectly. ‘I've been a fan of this band since last San Francisco popfest when they blew me away with their
Tiger Trap-esque perfect indie pop punk and swooning boy girl vocals, and this was by far the best show I've ever
seen them play. They are living proof that hardcore drummers should also always also be in indie pop bands. For a
band that is heavily influenced by Rose Melberg's louder endeavors, you could tell they were nervous to be opening
up for Go Sailor, but they channeled their nervous energy perfectly to produce a little slice of indie pop heaven.’"
