Now after releases on Staub, Laid and Smallville the dream develops, the magic expands: Christopher Rau`s Debut Album Asper Clouds builds up one hour of pure beauty. No trend to be followed no invention to be intended it is the reduced gorgeousness that lets us float on sweet Asper Clouds. Nick Holder, Theo Parrish, Moodymann, Pete Rock, J Dilla- they all simply cached the right sense for magic samples, heavenly loops, warmest basslines- Christopher Rau might not connect to this heroes personally but he belongs to those magician who forms happiness out of a lowest amount of ingredients. It has been the sweetness and warmth of the city of Hamburg, it’s delightful venues such as the Golden Pudel Club and Smallville Parties at Ego that made him diving into deepest music. After “Ne Travaillez Jamais” became the favorite track of all Smallville and Dial Djs and Rau played on one of those magic nights the idea of an Album was born. Missing Days and That Ghost built the foundation for Stefan Goldmann’s steady grip on today’s state of the art in electronic music. Both tracks were produced in 2001 and became the key works of his early years. Long out of print, they have been sought after classic vinyl ever since. Remastered by D+M’s Rashad from the original DAT source and cut to a whole 12″ side each, they are finally available in unprecedented quality. Missing Days predated the recent huge Deep House revival by several years and designed the layout for today’s ruling modern, reductionist deepness. Stunningly, That Ghost sounds like the original prototype to much of today’s other big tendency: totally stripped down, drum-centered House. A steady beat pattern that creates maximum impact with a minimum of elements - add a one note bassline and sparse appearances of spooky snippets and you have pretty much the sound of 2010. After a five year production hiatus, Montreal micro house legend Marc Leclair (aka Akufen ,Horror inc.) emerges from the fog to present some of his most prolific work to date. The Moody and Dark side of Marc’s musical persona called Horror inc. has previously appeared on labels Revolver Canada and Germany’s Perlon and the projects hauntingly beautiful house tracks have always been received with critical acclaim. Aurore is the title track that leads things off with a super groovy percussive bubbler that builds up to a beautiful arrangement of delayed guitar and various strings. An epic build that leaves you in a bliss of tear jerking strings and french horn. Incredible. Cre?puscule drags the listener deeper into the shadow with it’s tightly woven layers of live jazz elements pulling you into a twisted labyrinth of plucked strings. A cinematic, moody affair that could easily find it’s way into a Hitchcock or David Lynch film. Last but definitely not least comes Dans La Nuit. A killer groove backed with the Horror inc. Signature spooky child toy like sequence underlying the entire track. A synth creeps in and build things up to a boiling point where things break and desolve into a desperate moment of disillusion and mystery. Then when you least expect it the percussion and bass bring you back to a state wonder and delight rarely found in house music today. How Marc LeClair ties all these elemnts together in the last minutes of the track is pure magic. On this, his first proper EP for Thema, we can hear a lifetime of Berroyer’s music appreciation splayed across both sides. The A side draws from the darker subterranean end of Berroyer’s inner dancefloor with the aquatic meditative prologue, “Arkuarium.” “Baibe”—a rarity from the vaults—has a sly groove punctuated by subtle jazz guitar and one sweaty, desperate vocal sample. The glitch-laden “Truckerz” caps it off with an animated dash of driving stripped-down house lunacy. On the flip “Holy Day” greets you with an aural rumination on oppression, expression and fear. Sunny, swooning instrumentation clashes with the speeches and news clips strewn throughout. It works beautifully—painting what could be a scene of a backyard barbecue party in a dystopian suburb out of Orwell’s “1984”... at once ominous and soothing. “Hotel” sounds like it may have been recorded during the same session, but has a distinctly more upbeat vibe. The Ark machine is now in full effervescing mode and the vocal detrius is woven into a crazy oblique narrative before our very ears. Closing things out is “Jazzark”. Ark’s interludes have always been an integral part of his EPs. The Traveller' is simply the most anticipated techno album of the year, and probably one of its best. It's yet another pristine example of René Pawlowitz's dilated dancefloor scope, sourcing influences from '90s UK techno and hardcore to explore new routes around the signature 4/4 pulse of Berlin dance music. As with his massively acclaimed predecessor 'Shedding The Past', Shed seems completely at ease with the album format, offering a range of deadly, yet often brief ideas which add up to a personal and nostalgic comment on techno in 2010. That spirit of pre-'94 jungle and hardcore is written deeply through cuts like 'Leave Things', which initially sounds like a Japanese Telecom track before bursting into into a truly magnificent 'ardcore head rush, and then there's the vintage Reload-esque construction of 'Atmo - Action' and the hyperactive mentasms of 'No Way!' just in case you had any doubts about what makes this guy buzz. And in case if you were wondering, straight 4/4 tracks do make an appearance, bookending the set with the insistent momentum of 'My R-Class' and the celestial vectors of 'HDRTM', but the best bits are those shorter, dreamy 'ardcore snapshots like the vintage Carl Craig-esque sweep of '44A (Hard Wax Forever)' and the 'Polynomial C' style strings of 'Hello Bleep!'. Needless to say, fans of the previous album should be hugely satisfied, and newcomers should be investigating at the first opportunity. Recommended. / Techno / [11/4/2010]

After the success of the track Naphtalina, with a first mention in the Beatport Top 100 for Signaletik Records, the label offers a return on this release with the coming of a "Part 2". The duo Danzca was again requested to provide a new vision of this title. This rework is accompanied by another choice remixer. After the talented Joey Beltram, it is up to Peter Van Hoesen offers us a remix of this track. Peter Van Hoesen, resident at Fuse, the mythical Brussels club, is an artist with a heavy musical history. Active since 1993 in the electronic music scene, he is recognized by all for his multiple talents to produce equally either Techno or Electronica. Founder of the label Time To Express, he also released several productions on other labels such as Lan Muzic, Meakusma or Foton, not to mention the release this year of his debut album Entropic City on his own label. Enriched by his career path, Peter Van Hoesen tackles this track by giving it a more powerful and dub side. This more German approach creates a resolutely Techno track with a dark atmosphere and a heavy bass. He did not skimp on the effects to break the monotonous side and thereby build a evolutionary track of a little over 7 minutes. Now, he has produced his first 12“ record for Mo’s Ferry. Not the casual House – and this is not just another DJ tool, but rather a multifaceted record with a B-side that shouldn’t be left cuddling with your slipmat all the time… even though it’s hard not to put the needle right back to the beginning of the A-side. Listening to „Come On People“ you could tell immediately that Breakbeat is one of Mr. Statik’s various roots. Short drumloop slices inconspicuosly stacked with the driving hihat give this merrily jumping House track a special touch. The British sound of the Greek producer is formed by an extraordinary symbiosis of House elements, funky guitar licks and a slightly dubby atmosphere. Without even thinking of picking conventional and worn cheesy stuff to express lightness and happiness, this track does it in a very natural way. The B-side as the logical consequence extends the suspense heading to the afterhour. Referring to the 90s the sound aesthetic is primarly formed by samples. The typical Drum’n'Bass-pad emphasizes the whole concept. A varied bassline and selective talkbox-vocals take „Workin’ It Like We Do“ to a higher dimension. Marking the ending oft the suspense, the last track captures you in a different way. It also means we are not greedy and do not want to cash in when our release turns into a best seller… And so you should be well-prepared not to miss out on our new limited coloured vinyl-only release WPH Red, for the following reasons: Track A1 is brought to us by Maxim Lany (with a little help from San Soda) and brings us Sardinian opera samples matched to a killer raw retro-esque house groove. The name ‘Cuncambias’ means ‘exchange of cultures’, how about that for being culturally correct?! On the B-side the first track comes courtesy of newcomers Lemakuhlar, formerly known as Dalo9fj. The latter could ring a bell, because the track featured on the bonus mix CD by Red D that came with San Soda’s debut CD. This absolute beauty of a track cannot be compared to anything, it’s house, it’s trance, it’s jazz, it’s ‘welcome to WPH Lemakuhlar’! Already changing names before their first track is released? How about that for being artistically correct?! The second track on the B-side was a late addition that came hot on the heels of a James Teej remix request. This Canadian based DJ/producer made a killer album for Rekids that hasn’t left WPH boss Red D’s car stereo in months, and we are happy that Rekids did not pick the track ‘Dreaming Of A Grey Door’ themselves. This huge hit has been out of print for a long time - now BACK IN! What a year it’s been for Terje Olsen one minute he’s studying hard in Oslo the next week half of the globe wants him in there club at the weekend! Bearfunk entertainment recently did a night in Zurich with Terje and for a young man he certainly knows his onions. Now Terje has had this track in his armoury for some time in fact it nearly came out on another UK based label last year, well thank god it didn’t get a full release and Full Pupp got it’s dirty mitts on it, yes the long awaited “Eurodans” is only days away from full release. I have heard so many good things said about “Eurodans” that I really don’t think writing anymore spiel about will do it justice. It needs to be played to be believed. It’s like the cartoon company Acme making a tin of “Acme instant dancefloor filler” for the roadrunner. Playing Eurodans is like a full dancefloor in a minute. But Eurodans is not the only gem as Terje also delivers on the other side. He spoils us with the aptly titled “Italian Stallion” an excellent homage to the of land sunglasses, fast cars and Speedos, Baldelli would be proud of this one.
